ROCK GENRE CODES AND CONVENTIONS
throughout the
genre
there is a
theme of being dark, emotional and meaningful. This is shown through
the dark lighting in videos and photo-shoots and
heavy, meaningful lyrics with a strong sound. Often, the colors
black
and white will be used to connote seriousness, and emotion.
Long
and/or wide camera angles are normally used to allow the whole band to be seen
and to show music instruments being played. There are
also close ups of the artists playing the instruments, this is to show the
members individually
and
to create an intense feel to the video.
The
Performance in most videos shows the band playing together and sometimes
shows each
member plain separately, or in some videos the band are shown to be
playing separately until the last chorus
then
they come together to give the video a more dramatic ending.
The
costume of the band members are typically seen wearing black with leather
jackets and ripped jeans and boots. this is to give the band a more powerful
look.
they would also sometimes have lots of jewellery even more typically they
have messy black/long hair as this is used to create a larger head banging
effect. they also typically have lots of tattoos showing as this is a
connotation of being strong and also tough.
