Record Labels

Record Labels

Record Labels Play a huge part in the music industry in marketing Artists to their chosen audience. Record Labels provide studio time, organise tours, shows, meet ups, merchandise and basically everything that the artist does. Like in the film industry there are big labels and there are independent labels, and now Artists often try to become big off their own back with no Label help, although that is very hard.

In the music industry the main labels are labeled as 'The Big Four.' 'The Big Four' Consist of 'Universal Music Group', 'Sony Music Entertainment', 'Warner Music Group' and  'EMI Group.' These labels control 88% of the market. The remaining are independent labels. In addition to this these 'Big Four' have subsidiaries. So for example Sony Music Entertainment's subsidiaries are;

.Columbia Records
.Epic Records
.RCA Records
.Sony music Nashville
.Provident label group

'Warner Music Group' subsidiaries are;
. Atlantic Music group
. Warner bro's Records
. Rhino Entertainment

'Universal Music Group' subsidiaries are;

. Capital music group. Republic records. Island records. Def Jam recordings . Caroline Records. Universal Music UK

'EMI Group' subsidiaries are;

. Blue Note Label Group

. Capitol music group
. Caroline music group
. Virgin Music Group
. Standalone Labels
